Installation
Download the latest release from the Download page.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”- Run the
.exeinstaller. - Accept the UAC prompt if Windows asks for permission.
- Masterboard launches automatically after installation and is available in the Start menu.
- Open the
.dmgfile and drag Masterboard into your Applications folder. - On first launch, right-click the app icon and choose Open instead of double-clicking. This bypasses Gatekeeper’s warning for apps from unidentified developers.
- After the first launch, you can open Masterboard normally.
- Download the
.AppImagefile. - Make it executable:
Terminal window chmod +x Masterboard.AppImage - Run it by double-clicking or from the terminal:

Engine setup
Section titled “Engine setup”Stockfish 17 is bundled and auto-detected at startup — no additional steps required. If you want to use a different engine or configure hash size and thread count, see Engine Configuration.
