Installation

Download the latest release from the Download page.

Windows

1. Run the .exe installer.
2. Accept the UAC prompt if Windows asks for permission.
3. Masterboard launches automatically after installation and is available in the Start menu.

SmartScreen warning

On first launch, Windows Defender SmartScreen may show a warning because the binary is not yet code-signed. Click More info → Run anyway to proceed. This is expected for unsigned builds.

macOS

1. Open the .dmg file and drag Masterboard into your Applications folder.
2. On first launch, right-click the app icon and choose Open instead of double-clicking. This bypasses Gatekeeper’s warning for apps from unidentified developers.
3. After the first launch, you can open Masterboard normally.

Linux

1. Download the .AppImage file.
2. Make it executable:

   chmod +x Masterboard.AppImage

3. Run it by double-clicking or from the terminal:

   ./Masterboard.AppImage

Tip

Some distributions may require the --no-sandbox flag if the app fails to start:

./Masterboard.AppImage --no-sandbox

RAM	4 GB recommended
Disk	~200 MB for the app; additional space for your game database

Engine setup

Stockfish 17 is bundled and auto-detected at startup — no additional steps required. If you want to use a different engine or configure hash size and thread count, see Engine Configuration.
