Folders & Collections

Masterboard provides two complementary organisation systems: folders for primary hierarchy and collections for cross-cutting tags.

Folders work like a file system. Every game lives in exactly one folder, or is Unfiled if it has not been assigned.

Right-click anywhere in the folder tree (left panel of the Games page) and choose New Folder. Type a name and press Enter.

Folders can be nested: right-click an existing folder and choose New Subfolder to create a child folder.

Right-click a folder and choose Rename or Delete. Deleting a folder does not delete the games inside it — they become Unfiled.

  1. Select one or more games in the Games list (click rows; hold Shift or Ctrl for multi-select).
  2. Right-click the selection and choose Move to Folder.
  3. Pick the destination folder from the list.

Click a folder name in the folder tree to show only the games in that folder. An Include subfolders toggle lets you include games in nested folders.

Click All Games at the top of the folder tree to remove the folder filter.

Collections are cross-cutting tags. A game can belong to any number of collections, independent of which folder it lives in.

Use collections for labels that span multiple folders or categories:

  • “Tournament games” — across different tournaments stored in different folders
  • “Critical losses” — games worth reviewing regardless of time control or event
  • “King’s Indian Defense” — all games featuring a particular opening regardless of result

Open the Collections panel (look for the tag icon or the Collections section in the Games page sidebar) and click New Collection. Give it a name.

  1. Select one or more games in the Games list.
  2. Click the tag icon on any selected row, or right-click → Tag with Collection.
  3. Check the collections to apply.

Use the Collection dropdown in the filter bar above the Games list to show only games tagged with a specific collection.
